Seyi Tinubu has stirred controversy by declaring his father, President Bola Tinubu as the “greatest president in Nigeria’s history.” His statement, made while addressing a group of youths in a viral video, has sparked heated reactions from opposition figures and critics.
He argued that his father had provided opportunities for young Nigerians, stating, “The only president that considers youths, the only president that created a platform for young people to fly.” He further claimed that Tinubu’s leadership had built an economy benefiting all Nigerians.
However, human rights activist and politician Omoyele Sowore dismissed the claim, insisting that the president’s policies had inflicted severe economic hardship on citizens. Sowore pointed to widespread business closures, soaring inflation, and declining wages as proof of governance failure.
“The economy is in ruins—7.2 million businesses shut down, inflation soaring, and wages that can’t sustain workers for a week,” he said while condemning the administration. He accused Tinubu of implementing economic policies that have weakened the naira and worsened living conditions.

Seyi Tinubu, however, defended his father’s leadership, insisting that his critics were unfairly targeting his family. He maintained that Tinubu had created a system that uplifted Nigerian youths, ensuring that they had opportunities to thrive.
His remarks have drawn mixed reactions, with supporters praising his father’s efforts while critics argue that the economic realities on the ground paint a different picture. Many Nigerians have taken to social media to express their views, further fuelling the debate.
Opposition elements have vowed to challenge Seyi Tinubu’s claims, arguing that the current administration has overseen one of the toughest economic periods in Nigeria’s history. Some have accused him of ignoring the struggles faced by ordinary citizens.
As the debate rages on, analysts believe that discussions about Tinubu’s legacy will remain a hot topic, especially as the nation grapples with economic challenges and the impact of government policies on everyday Nigerians.
