A heated confrontation erupted on Wednesday at the House of Representatives as two female lawmakers clashed over the declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State.
Blessing Amadi, a representative from Rivers, and Marie Ebikake engaged in a loud dispute just before the start of the day’s plenary session.
The exchange of words set the tone for the meeting, which proceeded with Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu at the helm.
The row followed President Bola Tinubu’s announcement on Tuesday, declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State due to its ongoing political unrest.

Tinubu made the proclamation during a nationwide broadcast, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and all members of the state House of Assembly for six months.
To manage the state’s affairs, Tinubu appointed retired Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas as the administrator for the duration of the emergency.
The declaration was made in accordance with Section 305 of the 1999 Constitution, which allows the government to impose a state of emergency in response to national crises, including political turmoil or disaster.
