Osun State University, Osogbo, has confirmed the tragic death of five of its students in a fatal road accident that occurred along the Ife-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday.
In a statement released on Monday, the university’s Public Relations Officer, Ademola Adesoji disclosed that the accident, which took place near the Balogun area in Ikire, claimed the lives of 10 individuals.
Reports from the Nigeria Police and the Federal Road Safety Corps indicate that the collision involved a bus traveling from Ibadan and an 18-passenger bus from Osogbo, resulting in a crash with multiple fatalities.
“Upon hearing of this tragic incident, our university management immediately deployed a team to the scene to assess the situation and provide support to any students involved in the crash.
“Unfortunately, we confirm the loss of the following students: Olagbemide Dotun, a 200-level Software Engineering student; Suleiman Farouq Adedayo, a 400-level Law student; Ogundare Pelumi, a 300-level Public Health student; Ogundare Elijah, a 100-level Mechanical Engineering student; and Olawuyi Mary, a 200-level Nursing student”, Adesoji disclosed.

The statement further noted that one student, Olagbemide Damilola, a 200-level Medicine and Surgery student, survived the accident and is currently receiving medical treatment.
In response to the tragedy, the university management expressed deep sorrow, offering both moral and logistical support to the affected families, including assistance with funeral arrangements.
“This devastating loss has left our university community in mourning. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those who perished,” Adesoji said. “We urge everyone to remain calm and supportive during this trying time.”
The university has pledged to continue monitoring the situation and provide further updates as they arise, while extending heartfelt condolences to the grieving families.
