Ogun State government has announced plans for the world’s largest cotton and polyester processing factory, located within the Special Agro Processing Zone at the Gateway International Airport in Iperu/Ilisan.
Governor Dapo Abiodun told members of Iperu Development Association led by former Accountant General of the Federation, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Madein, that the factory would be part of the “Renewed Hope Cotton Resurgent Initiative.” It is expected to occupy 400 hectares and employ an estimated 250,000 workers daily—a staggering economic boost for the region and the nation.
“In the next 30 to 45 days, Mr. President will come to do the groundbreaking. This factory will be the biggest of its kind globally and will sit on 400 hectares—equivalent to a new town,” Abiodun stated.
The governor noted that the choice of location was informed by strategic factors, including existing infrastructure, access to raw materials, and proximity to consumers. He emphasized the transformative economic potential for Iperu, Remoland, Ijebu land, and the broader Ogun State.

Abiodun also revealed that the Nigerian Air Force has expressed interest in establishing a base in Iperu to enhance security for the new airport and surrounding areas.
In addition to industrial expansion, the state government is developing infrastructure including road rehabilitation, renovated schools and health centers, and a new mother-and-child hospital. A 100-unit housing estate near the airport is also nearing completion.
The governor praised Mrs. Madein for her unblemished service to Nigeria, calling her a symbol of female excellence and perseverance. In return, Mrs. Madein thanked Abiodun for fostering a business-friendly environment and updated him on her contributions to state and national development.
Local leaders, including the Chairman of the Iperu Development Association, Otunba Taiwo Oyebanjo, and the Ebi of Idena, Oba Lukman Salami, praised both the governor and Mrs. Madein for their roles in accelerating Iperu’s transformation from a modest town to a modern hub.
