The Labour Party has announced the indefinite suspension of six high-profile members, including Abia State Governor Alex Otti and Senators Darlington Nwokocha and Ireti Kingibe, over what it described as “flagrant anti-party activities.”
The suspension was made public in a statement issued by the party’s national leadership, which cited repeated violations of party discipline and conduct detrimental to its internal unity.
According to the statement, the suspended members were involved in activities that undermined the party’s interests at both national and state levels. Though the specific actions were not detailed, party insiders say the individuals allegedly collaborated with opposition interests, disregarded party directives, and failed to attend key strategic meetings.
Alongside Governor Otti and the two senators, three other unnamed top party officials were also suspended. Party sources suggest the disciplinary action followed months of internal investigation and complaints from various state chapters.

“The party can no longer overlook the consistent acts of indiscipline and insubordination displayed by these individuals,” the statement read. “Their conduct amounts to sabotage of the collective will of our members across the country.”
This marks the most significant disciplinary action taken by the Labour Party since its surge to national prominence in the 2023 general elections, where it gained unprecedented support across several states and urban youth demographics.
Governor Alex Otti, who became the first Labour Party candidate to win a gubernatorial seat in Abia State, has not yet responded to the development. Neither have Senators Nwokocha and Kingibe, both of whom were vocal supporters of the party’s presidential bid during the last elections.
The party said the suspension is indefinite and would only be lifted following a thorough review by its disciplinary committee.
The development has already stirred mixed reactions online, with party loyalists split between calls for internal reconciliation and support for the leadership’s firm stance on discipline.
