President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has said that the achievements of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in less than two years have rekindled public confidence in the ruling party and are responsible for the surge in its nationwide support.

At the APC Renewed Hope Agenda Summit held at the State House Conference Centre, Tinubu addressed party stakeholders, including members of the National Working Committee, National Assembly leadership, and the Progressive Governors’ Forum, among them 22 governors who endorsed him for a second term.

President Tinubu, however, dismissed fears of a political monopoly, saying:

“A one-party system is not suitable for democracy. We are the ruling party, but people have a right to choose their association. This is not about crowding out opposition; it’s about delivering results.”

He likened opposition parties to a “sinking ship” while praising the APC as the vessel carrying Nigerians’ aspirations forward.

“I’m happy with what we’ve accomplished so far. We’re only halfway through the journey we started 24 months ago,” Tinubu added.

He praised the Federal Executive Council, APC leaders, and the National Assembly for backing his administration’s reform agenda. He reiterated that the government is committed to delivering on its Renewed Hope Agenda, which targets economic growth, improved security, anti-corruption reforms, and poverty alleviation.

Highlighting ongoing reforms, Tinubu noted the elimination of multiple exchange rates and steps taken to block arbitrage, describing them as “the grandfather of corruption.” He also referenced recent recoveries by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to illustrate progress in fighting graft.

“Only hard decisions can make life easy in the future,” he said. “Our reforms may be tough, but they are essential.”

He cited progress in attracting foreign direct investment as proof that the international community is responding positively to the administration’s policies.

“With these reforms, we are positioning Nigeria as a destination for global investors. This will create jobs, boost production, and raise living standards,” he added.

The APC summit was convened to review the administration’s performance across critical sectors ahead of the halfway mark of its first term. President Tinubu concluded with a note of confidence, saying Nigeria is on a trajectory of sustained growth and development.
