The Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, on Monday sealed the National Secretariat of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Abuja for 28 years of unpaid ground rent.

The enforcement, carried out by the FCTA’s Department of Development Control, is part of a broader campaign to reclaim more than 4,000 properties whose owners have defaulted on statutory land charges for years.

According to officials, the PDP property — located in the highbrow Wuse area of Abuja — had not remitted any rent to the FCT treasury since its allocation nearly three decades ago. This persistent non-compliance prompted the revocation of the land title and the subsequent physical sealing of the premises.

The Director of Development Control, Mr. Mukhtar Galadima, explained that the action was part of a larger exercise initiated by the FCTA to enforce compliance and recover revenue owed to the administration.

He emphasized that the sealing was not politically motivated but strictly a legal and administrative measure. “This is about compliance with the law. The FCTA is reclaiming land where ground rent has not been paid for over a decade, and the PDP headquarters is one such case,” Galadima said.

He reaffirmed that similar actions would be taken against all affected properties, regardless of the owner’s status, as long as they remained non-compliant with their lease agreements.

FCTA officials have recently sealed several high-profile properties, including offices of government institutions and major banks, following the revocation of their land titles due to unpaid rent spanning several years.
