As Nigeria commemorates Children’s Day,  Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo wants parents to play a more active role in steering their children away from the growing menace of cultism.

In a goodwill message marking the occasion, the governor described the family unit as the foundation of moral and civic values and urged parents to educate their children early about the dangers of joining cult groups.

He warned that cultism is a gateway to crime, violence, and broken futures, noting that many youths entangled in such groups often find themselves on the wrong side of the law.

Governor Okpebholo also emphasized the importance of community vigilance and the responsibility of schools and religious institutions in reinforcing positive values among children.

He stressed that the fight against cultism must begin at home, with parents modeling good behavior and prioritizing moral guidance.

“We cannot leave the moral development of our children to chance,” the governor said. “Parents must know their children’s friends, supervise their activities, and make the home a safe space where values are taught consistently.”

He assured citizens that his administration is working closely with security agencies and educational authorities to curtail cult-related activities in schools and communities across the state.

Governor Okpebholo concluded by encouraging children to dream big, remain focused on their education, and avoid peer pressure that could derail their future.
