The Pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, has appointed elder statesman and former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Oba Olu Falae as the new Chairman of its National Executive Committee.
Falae, who is also the traditional ruler of Ilu-Abo in Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State, was appointed during the group’s monthly meeting held at the residence of its national leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, in Akure.
According to National Publicity Secretary Jare Ajayi, the appointment was a strategic move by the group’s leadership to reposition Afenifere amid growing concerns over national challenges, especially insecurity and the structure of governance.
Ajayi emphasized that Falae’s leadership would reinvigorate the organisation and strengthen its advocacy for the Yoruba people within Nigeria’s political framework. He added that the group would intensify calls for restructuring, which it has long championed as a pathway to equity, stability, and national development.
Oba Falae, a former Minister of Finance and ex-presidential candidate, brings decades of political experience and traditional leadership to the role. His appointment is expected to bridge generational divides and foster internal cohesion within Afenifere.
