UEFA has officially released its end-of-season club rankings for the 2024/25 campaign, with Liverpool surprisingly securing fourth place—finishing ahead of Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain.
The rankings come after PSG’s historic 5-0 demolition of Inter Milan, a result that earned them their first-ever European Cup and completed a memorable treble-winning season.
Yet, UEFA’s club coefficient system—based on a club’s performances over the last five seasons in the Champions League, Europa League, and Conference League—has placed the French champions in fifth.
The UEFA coefficient ranking system rewards sustained success rather than single-season peaks. Clubs earn points for each match won or drawn and for reaching the later stages of European competitions.
A club’s score is the sum of its points over five seasons or 20% of its domestic league’s total, whichever is greater. These rankings play a crucial role in seeding for future UEFA competitions.
Liverpool, who failed to win a European trophy this season, nonetheless maintained their place among the continent’s elite thanks to their consistent deep runs across all three UEFA tournaments.

The Reds accumulated 125.5 points over five years, which was enough to place them behind only Real Madrid (143.5), Manchester City (137.75), and Bayern Munich (135.25). PSG finished on 118.5 points, weighed down by prior underperformances before their recent surge.
Here is the top 10 of UEFA’s 2025 club rankings:
| Rank | Club | Coefficient Points |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Real Madrid | 143.50 |
| 2 | Manchester City | 137.75 |
| 3 | Bayern Munich | 135.25 |
| 4 | Liverpool | 125.50 |
| 5 | Paris Saint-Germain | 118.50 |
| 6 | Inter Milan | 116.25 |
| 7 | Chelsea | 109.00 |
| 8 | Borussia Dortmund | 106.75 |
| 9 | Roma | 104.50 |
| 10 | Barcelona | 103.25 |
This marks the seventh consecutive year that Liverpool have finished in UEFA’s top five, reflecting their European consistency despite domestic transitions and occasional setbacks.
The Reds’ strong standing also guarantees them a top seeding in next season’s Champions League group stage, an advantage that could prove pivotal as they aim to add to their rich European legacy.
While PSG dominated headlines with their remarkable treble, UEFA’s rankings serve as a reminder that long-term consistency still holds significant weight in European football.
