Thomas Partey faces multiple UK rape charges

Former Arsenal midfielder and Ghana international, Thomas Partey, has been formally charged by UK authorities with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, according to a statement released by the Metropolitan Police on Friday.

The charges stem from allegations made by three women involving separate incidents that reportedly occurred between 2021 and 2022. The Metropolitan Police confirmed that the investigation began in February 2022, following the receipt of multiple complaints.

Partey, 32, was arrested and questioned under caution prior to the decision to prosecute. The accused footballer, who most recently played for Arsenal before parting ways with the club earlier this year, is expected to appear before a UK court soon.

Authorities have not disclosed the exact locations of the alleged offences, but all incidents are said to have occurred within the jurisdiction of the UK, where Partey has been residing since his move to Arsenal from Atlético Madrid in 2020.

 Police emphasized that the case will proceed in accordance with legal protocols and that all parties involved are entitled to due process.

As of Friday, neither Partey nor his legal representatives have issued a public statement. Arsenal Football Club has not commented either, having officially released Partey from his contract earlier this year after a prolonged injury spell and limited appearances during the 2024–25 season.

The Crown Prosecution Service is expected to provide additional details ahead of Partey’s initial court appearance. If convicted, the former midfielder could face a lengthy prison sentence under UK sexual offence laws.
