Electricity consumers across Lagos State have been advised to brace for periods of intermittent power supply as the Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, begins major maintenance on the Omotosho–Ikeja West 330kV power line.
The scheduled work, which will span 25 days from Monday, July 28 to Thursday, August 21, 2025, aims to upgrade critical infrastructure to support the country’s national grid.
According to TCN’s General Manager of Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the maintenance project will involve the installation of an Optical Ground Wire fibre cable on the transmission line.
The upgrade, approved by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission and the National Independent System Operator, is expected to enable full operationalization of the Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition system — a vital component for real-time monitoring and grid management.
The maintenance work will be carried out daily from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with power supply temporarily restored after each day’s operation.
While other transmission circuits will remain functional to ensure stability, areas served by the affected line may experience reduced supply or load shedding during work hours.
The Eko Electricity Distribution Company and Ikeja Electric have already issued public notices alerting their customers to the anticipated disruption.

Ikeja Electric, in its statement, informed customers that load shedding and inconsistent power supply should be expected throughout the period, urging them to plan accordingly.
Similarly, EKEDC stated that the planned outage will affect various parts of its network, stressing that the intervention is crucial for improving long-term power reliability.
Both companies assured customers that efforts are in place to minimize the impact while the work is ongoing.
This project comes amid a broader push by the federal government to modernize Nigeria’s electricity transmission infrastructure.
The installation of OPGW is seen as a key step toward upgrading the SCADA network, which enables centralized control, quicker response to faults, and improved system efficiency.
As the maintenance begins, the TCN emphasized that the collaboration between government agencies, transmission experts, and DISCOs reflects a shared commitment to addressing Nigeria’s chronic power challenges.
