The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has stated that President Bola Tinubu’s administration is committed to improving lives in the territory, even though it cannot realistically solve all of its problems.

Speaking at a media parley in Abuja on Monday, Wike acknowledged that while the government is taking decisive steps toward development, some issues are beyond the immediate capacity of any administration—regardless of its tenure.

“I will not say here that every problem has been solved. All problems cannot be solved, even if this government stays for 20 years; no government can solve all problems,” he said. “But government is solving problems that will help improve the lives of the people.”

Wike’s remarks came in response to public concerns about uncommissioned projects and the scope of ongoing infrastructure initiatives. Critics have questioned the lack of formal ceremonies for some completed developments.

In defense, Wike explained that the administration focuses on highlighting large-scale, capital-intensive projects—especially those that cost billions of naira and have significant impact on the public.

“It’s not possible for us to commission every project,” Wike clarified. “We take what we think are major, capital-intensive projects and showcase those. But when you’re talking about smaller projects, must we commission everything?”

He stressed that government resources and attention are being directed toward sectors that directly influence residents’ quality of life, such as education, healthcare, and social development.

Wike also called on the media to play a constructive role by verifying the progress of these projects through field visits with Mandate Secretaries in charge of different sectors.

“We’re not saying we’ve done everything,” the Minister reiterated. “But we are doing what will at least make a difference in the lives of the people, and that’s the whole point of governance.”

Wike concluded by urging collaboration between the media and government, emphasizing that public trust can be reinforced when citizens see genuine effort, even if every problem isn’t solved.
