Boxing fans are set for a blockbuster spectacle as heavyweight legend Mike Tyson and undefeated multi-weight champion Floyd Mayweather have agreed to an exhibition fight scheduled for spring 2026.

Promoter CSI Sports confirmed the deal on Thursday, describing the match-up as one of the most unlikely yet exciting events in modern boxing history.

Although the exact date and venue have not been disclosed, anticipation is already surging. Tyson, now 59, is remembered as one of the most ferocious heavyweights of all time. With a career record of 50 wins—44 by knockout—and just seven losses, he left an indelible mark on the sport.

His fearsome power and aggressive style made him the youngest heavyweight champion in history when he claimed the title at age 20.

Mayweather, 48, is equally legendary, retiring in 2017 with a perfect record of 50 wins and no losses. Known as “Money” Mayweather, he held world titles across five weight divisions and built his reputation on masterful defense, unmatched ring IQ, and razor-sharp counterpunching.

Despite his official retirement, Mayweather has stayed active through exhibition fights, including a win over John Gotti III in Mexico in August 2024.

Tyson’s last ring appearance, however, was less successful. He fought YouTuber-turned-prizefighter Jake Paul in November 2024 in Arlington, Texas. In that bout, Tyson struggled to keep up, barely landing punches as Paul dominated over eight rounds.

Still, the fight drew a massive live audience of around 70,000, with millions more watching worldwide, proving Tyson’s enduring box-office appeal.

The announcement of a Tyson-Mayweather clash has stunned fans and experts alike. Both fighters hail from different eras and weight classes—Tyson a heavyweight powerhouse, Mayweather a welterweight genius. Exhibition rules, yet to be outlined, will likely determine how this unprecedented meeting unfolds.

“When CSI came to me about stepping in the ring with Floyd Mayweather I thought, ‘No way this happens,’” Tyson admitted in a statement. “But Floyd said yes.

This fight is something neither the world nor I ever thought would or could happen. However, boxing has entered a new era of the unpredictable, and this fight is as unpredictable as it gets.”

The matchup continues a recent trend of exhibition bouts featuring retired legends, celebrities, and crossover fighters that blend entertainment with sport.

Critics argue such events dilute boxing’s prestige, while supporters highlight their entertainment value and ability to attract global audiences beyond traditional fans.

Whether seen as a gimmick or a groundbreaking event, the Tyson-Mayweather fight is expected to command enormous attention. Pay-per-view revenues are projected to soar, given the global star power of both men.

With both fighters already icons of the sport, their 2026 showdown will be less about rankings or titles and more about legacy, spectacle, and fan curiosity.

For many, it represents a rare chance to see two of boxing’s biggest names—separated by weight, style, and era—share the same ring in a bout few ever thought possible.
