Tears flowed today as the remains of Ruth Otabor, younger sister to Big Brother  Season 7 winner – Phyna Otabor, were committed to the earth in Ogun State.

Family members, friends, and fellow reality TV stars gathered in grief to honour the life of the 24-year-old, whose sudden death shocked both her community and fans across Nigeria.

The atmosphere at the graveside was heavy with sorrow. Phyna, clad in mourning black, broke down several times as relatives surrounded the casket.

Hymns and prayers rang out, while mourners consoled one another and spoke of Ruth’s kindness and the promise her short life carried.

Ruth’s final journey began after a tragic road accident on 13 August near Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State.

A Dangote truck struck her, leaving her with devastating injuries, including a crushed leg that doctors later amputated in a bid to save her life.

Weeks of treatment offered hope, but on 31 August she succumbed to complications, ending a fight that left her family and fans praying desperately for her recovery.

At the burial, tributes poured in from friends, fans, and former Big Brother Naija housemates who turned up to support Phyna in her grief.

Many recalled Ruth as cheerful and humble, someone who touched lives quietly before her untimely passing.

On social media, the grief was widespread. Emmanuella Omanoye posted strings of crying emojis.

Lady P Empire wrote: “So sad 😭😭

😭.” Aisha Abdkarim Mami also shared tears emojis, while Patience Effiong posted similar expressions of sorrow.

Agene Ehi Confidence added: “So young. May her soul rest in peace 🕊️.”

Netizens, however, expressed surprise that Ruth was buried in Ogun State despite being from Edo.

Posts circulated questioning why the family chose the location, sparking online discussions that highlighted both cultural expectations and personal family decisions surrounding burials.

Community members at the funeral also raised concerns about frequent accidents involving heavy-duty trucks across the country, urging authorities and transport companies to enforce stricter safety standards to prevent more needless deaths.

For Phyna, the day was not only a farewell but also a harsh reminder of life’s fragility. Supported by her mother and loved ones, she bade a painful goodbye to her sister in a burial that united grief, memories, and questions about a tragedy that could have been prevented.
