The Secretary to the Government of the Federation,SGF, Senator George Akume, has officially opened the second quarter 2025 meeting of the Forum of the SGF and Secretaries to the Governments of States in Jos, Plateau State.
He emphasised the importance of building stronger collaboration between federal and state governments to ensure effective governance and better service delivery.
The gathering, which marks the second since the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu assumed office, was designed to strengthen governance structures and harmonise policies across federal and state levels.
Speaking on the theme, “Understanding the Dynamics in the Roles and Functions of Secretaries to the Government of States,” Akume described the offices of the SGF and SSGs as the engine room of government operations.
He noted that their functions cover policy coordination, cabinet affairs management, inter-governmental cooperation, institutional memory, and advisory support for continuity in governance.
The SGF urged participants to adapt to the rapidly evolving governance landscape shaped by technological innovation and growing public expectations.
He stressed that governments at all levels must embrace digital tools, transparency, inclusivity, and responsiveness in service delivery.

He also highlighted the importance of proactive leadership, especially in supporting national security coordination.
Akume described the Forum as a vital platform for harmonising implementation strategies across different tiers of government and encouraged participants to use it to strengthen collaboration and improve governance outcomes.
In his goodwill message, Plateau State Governor, Barrister Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, described the SGF and SSGs as the principal advisers to the President and Governors.
He underscored their critical role in decision-making, pointing out that memos are transmitted directly to them, not to deputy governors.
Mutfwang urged participants to uphold the confidence entrusted to them by their principals.
He stressed that Nigeria is at a point where collective effort is essential to deliver good governance and align with federal initiatives for the benefit of citizens nationwide.
