A massive memorial service for slain U.S. conservative activist Charlie Kirk drew tens of thousands to Arizona on Sunday, where former President Donald Trump praised the 31-year-old as a martyr and symbol of Christian conservatism.

Kirk, founder of the youth-oriented conservative group Turning Point USA, was fatally shot on September 10 at a Utah university campus.

His killing sent shockwaves through America’s right-wing circles, galvanizing supporters who view him as a defender of faith, free speech, and “biblical principles.”

The memorial, held at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, gathered nearly 65,000 attendees from across the country.

The event was equal parts political rally and religious gathering, with attendees waving flags, chanting “USA! USA!” and singing along to Christian rock anthems between speeches.

Trump, who headlined the ceremony, described Kirk as “a martyr now for American freedom.” He compared him to a Christ-like figure, saying his death would inspire new generations of conservatives.

“Before, he was a leader of the youth. Now he’s a symbol for the nation,” Trump said to thunderous applause.

Supporters echoed that sentiment. Monica Mirelez, a Texas nurse who drove over 12 hours to attend, said Kirk embodied Christian courage.

“He was a perfect example of what we should be doing as Christians — bold and unafraid. It feels like losing a brother,” she told reporters.

For some young conservatives, the loss felt deeply personal. Fifteen-year-old Nick Chisholm said classmates mocked Kirk’s death, a reaction he found shocking. “Whatever he said, he didn’t deserve to be killed for his opinion and beliefs,” he said.

Speakers, including Trump adviser Stephen Miller, framed the killing as a rallying cry. “You have no idea the dragon you have awakened,” Miller warned, vowing conservatives would redouble efforts to “save this civilization and the West.”

Others in the crowd linked Kirk’s message to broader cultural battles, praising him for challenging progressive ideas on gender and sexuality.

Some attendees blamed Democrats for fostering hostility toward conservative voices, while others called for renewed church involvement in American public life.

Despite the charged rhetoric, themes of forgiveness also surfaced. Kirk’s widow, Erika, urged grace and resilience, while some young Turning Point USA members said they forgave the alleged shooter.

“Kill one, and a thousand more will rise,” said Jeremy Schlotman, a 21-year-old Catholic, echoing a phrase repeated throughout the stadium.

For Trump and his supporters, Kirk’s death may reshape the conservative movement. What began as a mourning event became a declaration: “We’re all Charlie Kirk now.”
