Nigerian singer Davido has been admitted as a GRAMMY voting member, a role that gives him the power to influence the 2026 awards.

The GRAMMY Awards, officially called the Gramophone Awards, are presented each year by the Recording Academy to celebrate excellence in music worldwide.

With this new membership, Davido joins a select group of industry professionals who decide which songs, albums, and artists will be nominated and ultimately awarded.

His admission is widely viewed as recognition of both his influence and the rising global profile of Afrobeats.

The Recording Academy shared a short video online showcasing Davido among other new voting members. This development further strengthens the position of African artists within the global music industry.

For Davido, it represents an opportunity not only to cast votes but also to help shape conversations around how African sounds are valued internationally.

While being a voting member does not automatically translate to nominations or wins, it is an important milestone in Davido’s career.

He now has a voice in one of the most respected award processes in music, a voice that could amplify African creativity on the world stage.

Over the past decade, Davido has grown into one of Africa’s most successful performers.

He has released chart-topping singles, sold-out major arenas across continents, and collaborated with global icons such as Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, and Popcaan.

His role in popularizing Afrobeats has made him a cultural ambassador whose influence extends far beyond Nigeria.

The voting process for the 2026 GRAMMYs begins on October 3. Members of the Recording Academy will first nominate works across categories, after which a final round of voting will determine the winners. The official award ceremony will then be held in early 2026.

By joining the GRAMMY voting body, Davido steps into a new phase of his career, not just as a performer but as a participant in shaping the future of music recognition worldwide. His inclusion reflects Africa’s growing voice in global entertainment.
