President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of Ms. Somtochukwu Maduagwu, a news anchor with Arise Television, who was killed during a robbery at her residence in Abuja Monday.

Tinubu extended heartfelt condolences to the Maduagwu’s family, Arise News management, and the entire Nigerian media community.

”Maduagwu was a promising professional journalist whose life was cut short in a cruel and condemnable manner.

‎” Security and law enforcement agencies should conduct a quick and thorough investigation into the incident and ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and brought to justice without delay”, the president noted in a statement by his Special Adviser, Bayo Onanuga.

‎Tinubu assured Nigerians that his administration remained committed to protecting lives and property and would intensify efforts to combat all forms of crime across the country.

Meanwhile, a management team of ARISE News led by Deputy Managing Director, Mr Bayo Awosemo has visited the Maduagu family in Port Harcourt to commiserate with them on the death of Somtochukwu.

The late broadcaster, aged 29, joined ARISE News as an engaging presenter whose work resonated with viewers. A trained lawyer, she was also described as a supportive colleague and a dear friend within and outside the newsroom.

The tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025, and is currently being investigated by the Nigeria Police.

Maduagwu was a trained lawyer who transitioned into broadcast journalism, quickly making a name for herself as one of the vibrant young voices on Nigerian television.

Her colleagues and management have extended condolences to her family, describing her passing as a devastating blow not only to ARISE News but also to the entire Nigerian media community.

Her death adds to the rising cases of insecurity in the country.

Despite the Nigerian government promised to end the menace it has been unable to curtail the developments.
