Emergency responders have rescued 37 persons from the rubble of a building on Lagos Street, Garki, Abuja, which collapsed amidst heavy downpour on Wednesday night.
Eye witnesses at the scene feared many were killed and when the multi-purpose building caved in trapping occupants.
The building reportedly came down on the occupants during the heavy rain which began around 10:30pm on Wednesday.
”There was wailing all over the place after the building collapsed. Dozens of people are either dead or trapped as the building is fully occupied.
“It was a scene of helplessness with people screaming and running helter-skelter, while the heavy rain continued,” an unidentified witness said.
