The Edo State Government has relocated the office of the Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu to another building outside the Government House.

The development followed the feud between the Governor, Godwin Obaseki and his deputy.

A Government official who pleaded anonymity on Saturday disclosed that the relocation of the Deputy Governor’s office was due to the ongoing renovation of the Government House where Shaibu’s and the Governor’s offices are located.

The source added that Obaseki will also be doing “skeletal work in his office until the renovation is completed”.

“The new office was supposed to be ready this weekend but the contractor is yet to hand over the property. When the contractor does, the State Government will make a statement on it”, the source said.

Credible News gathered that the new office is at 7, Dennis Osadebey Avenue, close to the Government House.

The new office used to be the State Public Procurement Office commissioned by a former Governor of the State, Senator Adams Oshiomhole, on December 16, 2014.

Over the past few weeks, Obaseki and Shaibu have been at loggerheads over issues relating to the alleged impeachment plot against the deputy governor.

In July, Shaibu approached the Federal High Court in Abuja with a suit to prevent the plot. However, Obaseki and the Speaker of the Edo House of Assembly, Blessing Agbebaku denied the alleged impeachment plot.

In early August, Obaseki accused Shaibu of attempting to overthrow him.

And on Sunday, a crisis almost erupted at the New Festival Hall of Government House, Benin, when an operative of the Department of State Services prevented Shaibu from meeting with Obaseki.

Aside from that, the Governor has disbanded the media crew attached to the Office of the Deputy Governor.

Obaseki directed Shaibu to henceforth request for media coverage of activities from the Ministry of Communication and Orientation.

The battle for succession has pitched the Deputy Governor against Obaseki.

Shaibu, who hails from Edo North Senatorial District, plans to succeed Obaseki, an indigene of Benin in Edo South Senatorial District. However, Obaseki is reportedly pushing for a successor from Esanland in Edo Central Senatorial District.
