The Gombe State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal Tuesday struck out the petition filed by the African Democratic Congress, ADC, and its candidate, Nafiu Bala against Governor Inuwa Yahaya and his Deputy Manassah Daniel of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The ADC had challenged the declaration and return of Yahaya over alleged multiplicity and variations in the arrangement of names on the certificates of his deputy without accompanying affidavits, saying their ticket was rendered invalid.
However, the court said it was a pre-election matter and that the deputy had met the minimum certificate requirement to run.
The tribunal also struck out ADC’s allegations of corrupt practices and vote buying for lack of proof.
Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, had declared Yahaya and Jatau winners of the March 18 governorship election.
In the suit challenging the uploading of the results, the court upheld that there is no provision for INEC to do so.
