The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal in Sokoto has confirmed the election of Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, the former governor of the state, as the duly elected Senator representing Sokoto South Senatorial District.
The three-man panel, led by Justice Denis Madi Echesi, dismissed the petition of the All Progressive Congress , APC and its candidate, Senator Ibrahim Danbaba, challenging the PDP and its candidate’s victory.
According to the Tribunal, the petitioner failed to prove its case beyond a reasonable doubt. It also awarded the respondents, Tambuwal and the PDP, a cost of two hundred thousand naira.
In response to the tribunal decision, Chris Kelechi Esq., a member of the legal team representing the petitioner, Ibrahim Danbaba, stated that his team will study the decision before filing an appeal.
“The Tribunal has promised to hand over a copy of the judgment tomorrow, after which we will sit and thoroughly check before filing an appeal,” he explained.
Suleiman Usman, SAN, who represents Senator Aminu Tambuwal, praised the decision in his reaction.
