Former President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated President Tinubu on his election victory being upheld by the Supreme Court. He wished the president and his administration a successful tenure.

Buhari stated that the Supreme Court’s decision to dismiss petitions filed by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party , PDP, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party , LP,  is a relief to him and the majority of Nigerians.

According to a statement signed by the ex-president’s Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, Buhari reiterated what he said on the previous 6 September verdict of the Presidential Election Petition Court, which affirmed President Tinubu’s victory, that the welcome decision is “a reaffirmation of the will of the majority of the people.”

“Now that we have arrived at the final bus stop, after a tortuous 8-month legal journey, the nation deserves a break,” he said.

“The opposition fought valiantly. They should accept the hand of fellowship extended by the Tinubu/Shettima @OfficialAPCNg government now that they have exhausted their constitutionally permitted rights.

“Let them allow the Government to run their administration and the people to enjoy the full benefits of the promises the All Progressives Congress (APC) made.”

The former president also expressed concern about low voting percentages throughout the country, particularly in urban areas, and stated that this should change given Nigeria’s acceptance and vibrancy of democracy.
