President Bola Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, has urged the Peoples Democratic Party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, and his Labour Party counterpart, Peter Obi, to accept the Supreme Court’s decision and work together for Nigeria.
According to crediblenews, the Supreme Court confirmed Tinubu as the winner of the 2023 election after months of legal wrangling.
The Supreme Court panel led by Justice John Okoro unanimously ruled that Obi and Abubakar’s appeals against Tinubu were without merit and should be dismissed.
Uwani Aji, Mohammed Garba, Ibrahim Saulawa, Adamu Jauro, Abubakar Tijjani, and Emmanuel Agim are the other justices on the panel.
On Thursday, shortly after the judgment was delivered in the courtroom in Abuja, the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, who described the litigation as a distraction, assured that Tinubu will continue to extend hands fellowship to Atiku, Obi and other Nigerians.
“The litigation is a distraction,” he said. The litigants exercised their legal right to appear in court. But that is no longer the case. We must now work together as one country or one people to move this country forward to where it belongs.”
The president’s COS characterized the Supreme Court’s decision as “very sound by any standard.”
“We shouldn’t take things personally,” he added. If you carefully listened to the judgment, you will notice that it was very sound by any objective standard and was supported by facts and cases.”
“The president is a democrat, and he has always extended his hands of fellowship,” Gbajabiamila continued. He has always done so, and he will continue to do so on his behalf. Governance affects everyone. It’s not about throwing a party. It’s not about a single person. We will only have ourselves to blame if we do not band together now.
“The elections have concluded. The legal battle is over. All litigation has concluded. Governments must act now; distractions must end. So, Mr. President, the APC and all right-thinking members of society, regardless of party affiliation, must come together to address the issue of governance.”
