In less than two years, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency , NDLEA, agents have taken at least 6,668 tones of illegal drugs out of circulation.
The NDLEA’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, stated in a statement released yesterday that the organization had arrested over 36,096 suspects and prosecuted over 6,043 of them during that time.
The anti-drug agency’s chairman, Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa (Rtd), made this disclosure in response to Governor Dikko Radda’s request for cooperation and the deployment of additional NDLEA officers throughout Katsina State in order to combat drug abuse, according to the statement.
“The drug problem is a serious problem that has ruined the lives of our young people and entire communities. It is the biggest threat to public safety, particularly in light of its criminal nature. For some of their crimes, ninety-nine percent of criminals need to be under the influence of drugs and have access to them.
“For this reason, the NDLEA has made every effort to conduct “offensive action,” with the management’s and the directorates’ combined support. This entails going out to seize any drugs that are being grown, imported, or about to be exported from the nation.
“In just two years, over 6,668 tonnes of illegal substances have been seized, and we pledge to keep up our relentless efforts until there are no more drugs on the streets. This is the part of the drug supply reduction process where we apprehend the offenders; during this time, over 36,096 suspects have been detained, and over 6,043 of them have already been charged with crimes and found guilty.
