The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress , NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero, will be flown abroad for medical treatment to address the injuries he sustained during a scuffle in Imo State while mobilizing workers for a protest rally against the state government’s alleged violation of workers’ rights and privileges.
However, the planned peaceful protest turned violent with allegations that thugs emerged and descended on the protesters and labour leaders.
Ajaero was whisked away by alleged operatives of the Nigeria Police.
He was later released with injuries on his face, revealing that he was brutalised and manhandled by those who kidnapped him momentarily
Speaking to The Nation on Thursday, the NLC publicity secretary, Benson Upah, disclosed that the NLC president could not be treated at the Federal Medical Centre Owerri because of the nature of the injuries he sustained during the scuffle.
