The Rivers State High Court of Isiokpo Division has issued an interim injunction restraining the State House of Assembly, the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker, the Clerk, and the State Chief Judge from impeaching Governor Siminalaye Fubara.
This order is currently in place.
The Presiding Judge, Hon. Justice Ben Whyt issued an interim injunction following a Motion Ex Parte filed by Mr. Damian Okoro, representing the governor, against the defendants.
This injunction restrains the State House of Assembly, the Speaker, the Deputy Speaker, the Clerk, and the State Chief Judge from initiating or proceeding with the process of removing the governor from office.
The court also ordered that the defendants cannot prevent the governor from carrying out his duties as governor until the Motion on Notice is heard and determined.
The judge further directed the parties involved in the case to preserve the status quo by refraining from taking any action that would advance the applicant’s alleged impeachment as governor.
Later, the hearing on the matter was postponed until November 14.
