Bandits attack Maulud celebration, killing 20, abducting many in Katsina

Bandits on sunday launched a deadly attack during a Maulud celebration, which led to loss of 20 lives and the abduction of numerous individuals in Kusa, Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State.

In a horrifying turn of events, an attack occurred during a Maulud celebration around 11:05 pm on Sunday. The assailants descended upon the festivities, shattering the peaceful gathering with a hail of gunfire.

The shocking incident left those in attendance in a state of chaos and fear as the sounds of gunfire reverberated through the village. The attackers ruthlessly surrounded the venue of the Maulud celebration and unleashed a barrage of bullets on the participants, resulting in numerous injuries.

A vigilante source recounted the horrific scene, stating that the attackers surrounded the Maulud venue, opening fire on the participants, injuring many.

According to him, “the aftermath of the attack left 20 lifeless bodies in the community, while several individuals were also forcefully taken captive by the assailants and their whereabouts is currently unknown”.

Confirming the attack, the State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, acknowledged the attack, stating that a group of bandits had indeed targeted the area during the Maulud celebration.

He noted that the assailants inflicted injuries on 18 individuals, who were transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Unfortunately, two of the injured individuals later died as a result of the injury.

Details surrounding the motives and identities of the assailants are currently under investigation, with authorities working diligently to piece together the events that transpired during this tragic incident.

Further investigation is ongoing for possible arrest and to bring the perpetrators of these acts to justice.

The local community remains on edge as the search for answers continues, and the injured victims receive medical care.
