The Appeal Court sitting in Lagos on Tuesday has declared Thaddeus Atta of the Labour Party , LP,as the duly elected member of the House of Representatives representing Eti Osa Federal Constituency, Lagos State.
The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos has declared Thaddeus Atta of the Labour Party as the duly elected member of the House of Representatives representing Eti Osa Federal Constituency, Lagos State.
This overturns the decision of the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal, which had declared the election inconclusive and ordered a supplementary election.
In September, the tribunal ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission , INEC , to conduct a supplementary election within 90 days in 33 polling units where elections were not held.
INEC was also instructed to withdraw the return certificate issued to Attah and conduct elections in areas where the election wasn’t held on February 25.
However, in Tuesday’s ruling, the Court of Appeal declared that the elections were conclusive, thus confirming Thaddeus Atta’s victory.
This outcome means that Atta defeated popular Nigerian singer and Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Bankole Wellington, who is known as Banky W and was declared the runner-up in the February 2023 election, as well as Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro of the All Progressives Congress.
