Emeka Chochoo, the former manager of renowned actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has shed light on the reason doctors recommended the amputation of one of the actor’s legs.
The distressing news of Mr Ibu’s amputation was shared by his family in a statement on November 6, 2023, through Instagram. According to the statement, the decision was made to increase the chances of his recovery after undergoing seven successful surgeries.
In a recent phone conversation with Punch, Emeka Chochoo revealed that the amputation was deemed necessary due to an infection of the arteries at the ankle that went undetected for too long. Despite the challenges, Mr Ibu is said to be responding well to treatment.
“I was with him up until yesterday. I worked as Mr Ibu’s manager for over a decade. He is responding well to treatment; he is gradually healing,” Chochoo reassured.
Providing more insight into the medical journey, Chochoo explained that doctors have been addressing various health issues one after the other. The amputation decision resulted from an infection affecting one of the arteries at the ankle, which unfortunately went unnoticed until it was too late.
“The doctors are treating everything one after the other. What led to the amputation of one of his legs was an infection that affected one of the arteries at the ankle. Blood wasn’t flowing into the leg, which was not detected on time. When it was, it had become too late, causing the doctors to decide on the amputation,” Chochoo elaborated.
Despite the surgery being conducted in Nigeria, Chochoo revealed that plans are underway to fly the actor abroad for further treatment. In the meantime, Mr Ibu continues to receive care and attention in Nigeria.
The challenging journey of Mr Ibu’s health has garnered widespread support and prayers from fans and well-wishers, and the family remains appreciative of the overwhelming response during this difficult period.
