The Federal Government, through the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, has disclosed that it is set to sign a memorandum of understanding, MoU, with Algeria for a direct flight route between the two countries in a few months to come.

The skies are set to witness a new chapter in connectivity as the Federal Government, through the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, gears up to ink a memorandum of understanding , MoU , with Algeria.

The agreement paves the way for a direct flight route between the two nations, promising increased accessibility and cooperation.

This exciting development comes after decades of having a Bilateral Air Service Agreement , BASA,  between Nigeria and Algeria, an agreement that has long awaited a revival.

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, revealed that discussions with Algeria led to the decision to reopen the route between Algiers and Lagos, breathing new life into the dormant BASA.

Under the new agreement, Algiers and Abuja will be connected, expanding the routes for both countries. The move underscores a commitment to fostering collaboration and open skies within the African continent.

Keyamo emphasized the importance of protecting local airline operators and promoting their business, a cornerstone of the current administration’s aviation policies.

The Algeria delegation, led by Ambassador Hocine Latli, expressed a desire for a tied partnership, recognizing that a direct flight between the two nations is pivotal.

The planned MoU signifies a step towards deepening the relationship and unlocking the potential for mutual benefits.

As bureaucratic processes are set in motion, the government is eager to expedite the signing of the agreement.

The envisioned direct flight route holds the promise of increased competition, leading to reduced airfare costs and fostering economic ties between Algeria and Nigeria.

The skies, it seems, are poised for a new era of connectivity and collaboration.
