The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has declared Governor Hope Uzodimma of the All Progressives Congress as the winner of the Imo State Governorship Election.
The election was keenly contested between Uzodimma, Samuel Anyanwu of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and Athan Achonu of the Labour Party, LP.
INEC declared that Uzodimma defeated his opponents in all Local Government Areas of the State with 540,308 votes, while Anyanwu of PDP and Achonu of LP polled 71,503 and 64,081 votes respectively.
Meanwhile, a Labour Party agent in Imo State, Calistus Ihejiagwa on Sunday morning was beaten and then thrown out of the State Collation Centre in Owerri.
Ihejiagwa had raised an objection to the results collated from the local government areas on the grounds that results brought before the State collation centre were at variance with what was on the Result Viewing Portal.
The party agent kept saying he had a petition to present to that effect, with the Returning Officer, Prof Abayomi Fashina, saying it was not in his purview to receive petitions.
As the issue degenerated, other parties’ agents bundled him out, while some hit him.
