The governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party ,SDP, in the November 11 election in Kogi State, Murtala Ajaka, has stated that he will not challenge the victory of Usman Ododo of the All Progressives Congress ,APC, in court.

Ajaka expressed his belief that challenging Ododo’s victory in court would be a futile endeavor.

Ododo emerged victorious in the election with 446,237 votes, defeating Ajaka, who secured 259,052 votes, and Dino Melaye of the Peoples Democratic Party, who garnered 46,362 votes.

Ajaka, during an appearance on Channels TV’s The 2023 Verdict program, alleged that the election was rigged in favor of Ododo. He cited reports of pre-filled election results in some parts of the state before the commencement of voting on Saturday.

In his remarks, Ajaka expressed disappointment with the conduct of the election, stating,

“I have been around for the past 20 years. I know what it is. What am I going to court to do when the same INEC that did this is going to come as a witness to defend what they did? So it is a waste of time.”

He further called on the Independent National Electoral Commission , INEC,  chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, to investigate the officials involved in the election.

Ajaka raised concerns about the credibility of future elections, expressing doubt about the possibility of elections in 2027 if such irregularities persist.

He warned that failure to address these issues could lead to increased violence and instability during elections.
