The situation in Gaza is becoming increasingly dire as the intense fighting takes a toll on health-care and communications infrastructure.
According to the director-general of the World Health Organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Gaza’s largest hospital, al-Shifa, is no longer functioning as a hospital due to days without power, water, or reliable internet, along with constant gunfire and bombings in the area.
The second-largest hospital, al-Quds, is also out of service due to power outages and fuel shortages.
The Palestine Red Crescent Society has reported significant damage to infrastructure from Israeli strikes, and Palestinian officials warn that communications and the internet in the enclave could shut down completely this week without urgent intervention. Israel’s military denies targeting civilians or striking al-Shifa Hospital.
