Tragedy struck the Muna Alamdari Internally Displaced Persons , IDP, camp in Maiduguri, Borno State, as a devastating fire claimed the lives of two individuals and destroyed over 1,000 houses on Wednesday.
The fire erupted around 6 a.m. and raged for more than an hour before firefighters managed to bring it under control. The State Emergency Management Agency reported that the victims included IDPs, members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, and security personnel who collaborated to combat the flames.
The agency is currently assessing the extent of the damage and has initiated efforts to provide immediate humanitarian assistance to the affected residents, including 500 bags of rice and blankets.
