During a press conference after their meeting in San Francisco, US President Joe Biden referred to Chinese President Xi Jinping as a “dictator.”
This comes just days after Biden expressed a desire to improve communication channels with a direct line to Xi. Biden characterized Xi as a dictator due to China’s communist form of government, which he emphasized is fundamentally different from the US system.
This isn’t the first time Biden has used this term; he previously referred to Xi as a dictator in June, following the US shooting down a supposed Chinese surveillance balloon.
The relationship between the US and China has been tense, marked by economic sanctions and concerns about a potential military conflict over Taiwan.
