In a concerted effort to eliminate street trading and maintain a clean urban environment, the Lagos State Government carried out an operation to dislodge and arrest street traders at various locations, including Oshodi-Agege Motor Road, Ikeja GRA, and Old Secretariat.

The operation was executed by the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps , LAGESC, and the Kick Against Indiscipline , KAI, under the directives of the Commissioner of the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab.

The arrested individuals, engaged in street trading, were taken to the LAGESC headquarters for further action in line with the government’s commitment to enforcing a zero-tolerance policy on street trading.

The statement emphasized the need to prosecute offenders at established Mobile Courts, reinforcing the State’s environmental laws. The Permanent Secretary, Office of Environmental Services, Gaji Omobolaji, warned that those apprehended would not only face legal consequences but also have their merchandise confiscated.

The government’s initiative reflects its determination to create a smart city free from street trading, addressing concerns related to aesthetics, public safety, and the overall urban environment. The move aligns with Lagos’s development into a megacity with a focus on enhancing the quality of life for residents.
