In a critical response to the dire medical situation in the Gaza Strip, 28 premature babies have been urgently transferred to Egypt.
The infants, facing severe health challenges, were transported from Gaza’s Emirati Hospital to Cairo and North Sinai hospitals for immediate medical attention.
The Palestinian Red Crescent coordinated the transfer, deploying ambulances from Gaza’s Emirati Hospital to the Rafah crossing. The Minister of Health, Khaled Abdel-Ghaffar, personally supervised the process.
Al-Qahera News broadcasted footage capturing the delicate operation, showcasing each premature baby being carefully transferred into incubators and subsequently loaded into Egyptian ambulances.
Earlier, 31 premature infants were evacuated from the besieged al-Shifa Hospital in northern Gaza to the Emirati hospital in the southern part of the enclave. Tragically, two babies lost their lives before the evacuation, underscoring the urgency of the situation.
According to reports from the World Health Organization ,WHO, doctors in Gaza emphasized that all the infants are battling serious infections due to a lack of essential medical supplies, with several infants in critical condition. Compounding the challenge, none of the premature babies were accompanied by relatives, as the Palestinian Ministry of Health struggled to locate close family members.
This urgent medical transfer sheds light on the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, where the scarcity of medical resources poses a significant threat to vulnerable populations.
The collaboration between the Palestinian Red Crescent and Egyptian authorities underscores the regional cooperation needed to address immediate health emergencies in conflict zones.
