The Federal Government of Nigeria has successfully addressed the passport production crisis in the United States, leading to the resumption of passport services at the Nigerian Missions in Washington DC, New York, and Atlanta.
A recent public notice posted in the Embassy of Nigeria, Washington DC, stated that applicants previously scheduled for biometrics capture from November 13 to November 16 are now rescheduled to attend from November 20 to November 22, 2023.
The issue, reportedly caused by an internet outage, has been resolved, with the affected applicants now able to proceed with their passport applications. The government’s prompt resolution of the crisis demonstrates its commitment to addressing challenges faced by Nigerians abroad.
The Nigerian community in the U.S. had earlier called on the Federal Government to provide passport production machines for Missions in New York and Atlanta, emphasizing the importance of equitable access to passport services across different jurisdictions.
The recent development is expected to ease the backlog of passport applications and ensure smoother processing for Nigerian citizens in the U.S.
