The Lagos State Ministry of Environment, through its Monitoring, Enforcement, and Compliance Department, has taken decisive action to clear illegal structures and dislodge unauthorized traders around several schools in the Badagry area.

The move comes in response to a petition from the authorities of Ajara Senior Secondary School, Badagry, highlighting the challenges posed by indiscriminate and unauthorized commercial activities in front of the school.

Commissioner for Environment Tokunbo Wahab confirmed the intervention in a statement posted on his Twitter handle, stating that an investigation was initiated following the school’s petition. The Monitoring, Enforcement, and Compliance Department visited the location, conducted an investigation, and served necessary abatement notices.

Wahab explained, “Following expiration of the served abatement of nuisance notices and refusal to comply, MEC operatives moved in on Monday and cleared the frontage of Ajara Senior Grammar School Badagry to restore sanity.”

The enforcement action also extended to other schools, including Anglican Primary School Ilogbo-Eremi, Badagry, Morogbo Primary School, Badagry, and Nigerian French Language Village, Badagry.

The Commissioner emphasized that the enforcement became imperative due to the discovery that unwholesome commercial activities near the schools contributed to rising truancy, hooliganism, and other vices detrimental to learners’ moral and intellectual development.

This decisive move by the Lagos State Ministry of Environment underscores the commitment to creating a safe and conducive learning environment for students by addressing external factors that may negatively impact their educational experience.
