Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has submitted a N24 billion supplementary budget for the year 2023 to the State House of Assembly for approval.
The proposed budget amendment aims to address various needs, including expected receipts from statutory revenue, Ecological funds, E.M.T.L, Independent Power Projects loan from the Central Bank of Nigeria, and increased Internally Generated Revenue ,IGR.
During the Tuesday plenary session, Speaker Jibril Ismail Falgore read the letter containing the Governor’s request, emphasizing the necessity of the second supplementary budget. Governor Yusuf highlighted the areas covered by the budget amendment, allocating N4 billion to personnel costs and gratuity settlement and N20 billion to capital expenditure supplementary.
The Governor emphasized that the supplementary budget was crucial for accelerating the execution of emergency priority projects in the state. He justified the amendment by pointing to expected revenues and the desire to enhance the State’s infrastructure and developmental initiatives.
“With the supplementary budget of N58 billion and N24 billion, the State 2023 budget has risen to N350 billion,” Governor Yusuf noted.
The House of Assembly unanimously agreed to commit the supplementary/amendment budget for legislative action, signifying the beginning of the deliberation process. Additionally, the 2024 appropriation bill successfully scaled the second reading during the session.
As Kano State continues to address its fiscal needs and prioritize crucial projects, the approval of the supplementary budget is anticipated to contribute to the state’s development and ongoing initiatives. The legislative action is a significant step towards ensuring that the proposed amendments align with the state’s priorities and financial goals.
