Members of the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria, JUSUN, Osun Chapter, have declared industrial action in the State effective immediately.

This development followed the firing of tear gas at the protesting workers and journalists by police stationed at the High Court entrance located at Oke-Fia area of the State capital on Wednesday.

The workers had gathered at the entrance of the State High Court to protest against alleged maltreatment by the Osun Chief Judge, Honourable Justice Adepele-Ojo.

Protesters were seen in groups chanting songs and holding placards with various inscriptions such as Judiciary staff deserves better treatment”, “We are tired of oppression and stagnation”, “Unlawful suspension of Judiciary staff without recourse to Judicial Service Commission is barbaric”, and “Unlawful Dismissal of judiciary staff against the public service rules” among others.

Chairman of JUSUN, Osun Chapter, Gbenga Eludire disclosed that since the Chief Judge has declared war against the workers, they should withdraw their service from their respective stations.

“Following the action of the police and the attitude of the Chief Judge, I, Comrade Eludire, hereby order workers in the sector to withdraw their service till further notice”, he said.

Recall that members of the Judiciary workers in the State had on Monday locked the entrance of the court and picketed the office of the Chief Judge in protest against the Chief Judge and the management on the activities of the judiciary in the State.
