The Court of Appeal sitting in Lagos on Friday has affirmed the election of Sheriff Oborevwori of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the Delta State governorship poll which was held on March 18.

The court’s decision comes after a thorough review of the appeal brought forward by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, the governorship candidate of the All Progressive Congress, APC, in Delta State, challenging the previous verdict of the Delta State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal.

The appellate court, in its ruling, declared that Omo-Agege’s appeal lacked merit, thereby reinforcing the legitimacy of Governor Oborevwori’s election.

The three-member tribunal headed by Justice C.H. Ahuchaogu had dismissed the petition filed by former Deputy President of the Senate, Omo-Agege.

The tribunal held that the petition contained unsubstantiated allegations, noting that it was devoid of merit and speculative.

Dissatisfied with the judgement, Omo-Agege and APC approached the Court of Appeal, asserting that the judgment of the tribunal was flawed.

Governor Oborevwori, on the other hand, argued vehemently for the dismissal of the appeal, asserting that it was devoid of merit.

However, the Court of Appeal in a judgement today did not only reaffirmed Sheriff Oborevwori’s election but also emphatically dismissed Senator Omo-Agege’s appeal, asserting that it failed to meet the threshold of merit required for reconsideration.

Furthermore, the Appeal Court delivered another decisive verdict by dismissing the appeal lodged by the Labour Party and its gubernatorial candidate, Ken Pela.

The LP and Pela had contested the lower tribunal’s ruling, which had previously upheld Governor Oborevwori’s election.
