Poor communication by the crew of United Nigeria Airlines on Sunday, November 26, led to confusion and anxiety among passengers traveling on its Lagos/Abuja route.
The flight, which was anticipated to be a one-hour journey from Lagos Airport to Abuja, was diverted to Asaba due to what the airline described as “poor destination weather.”
The unexpected diversion caused palpable anxiety among passengers, who had expected to land at Abuja Airport, not the temporary touch-down aerodrome in Asaba.
The incident has raised concerns among industry observers about the alternative airports listed in the flight path filed by the carrier with the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency ,NAMA.
The spokesperson of United Nigeria Airlines, Archilleus-Chud Uchegbu, offered clarifications on the development, stating that the aircraft was temporarily diverted to Asaba due to poor destination weather.
He explained that a wrong announcement made by the cabin crew upon landing in Asaba created confusion among passengers. The aircraft later landed safely in Abuja after an improvement in destination weather.
The incident has generated discussions on social media, highlighting the challenges and uncertainties in the Nigerian aviation industry.
