In a surprising turn of events, renowned stand-up comedian Bright Okpocha, popularly known as Basketmouth, welcomed his long-time rival and colleague AY Makun to his recent concert at Eko Hotel & Suites.
This invitation comes weeks after Basketmouth publicly apologized to AY, burying the hatchet on their 17-year-old feud.
Despite the reconciliation, Basketmouth clarified that AY was not scheduled to perform at the event due to its scripted nature. In a recent interview with Arise TV, Basketmouth explained, “AY is not on the bill to perform, but he has got a ticket. He’s attending. I sent him his ticket a few days ago.”
Addressing the anticipation surrounding AY’s potential performance, Basketmouth stated, “I know a lot of people have been asking, ‘Is AY gonna perform?’ He’s not on the bill.”
Basketmouth revealed the intricacies of the concert’s design, emphasizing that it is a scripted event with specific timings and a pre-defined set. “AY can’t even make a cameo because my show is already designed. We are recording for TV, so it’s a three-hour set,” he added.
The lineup for the evening includes comedians such as Bovi, Senator, Dan The Humorous, and Aproko from Abuja, with special appearances from talents in Ghana. Basketmouth highlighted the precision and perfection required for the show, given its recording for television.
The gesture of extending an invitation to AY and maintaining transparency about his non-performance showcases the maturity and professionalism exhibited by both comedians as they move forward from their longstanding feud.
The event not only marks a significant moment in their personal relationship but also emphasizes the evolving landscape of collaboration within the entertainment industry.
