The Federal Capital Territory High Court has announced a continuation of the trial against the former Central Bank of Nigeria ,CBN, Governor, Godwin Emefiele, on January 18, 2024.
Emefiele is facing charges related to alleged procurement fraud, specifically accused of using his position to confer corrupt advantages in the award of a contract for the procurement of 43 vehicles worth N1.2 billion between 2018 and 2020.
The former CBN governor had been remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre, pending the ruling on his bail application.
On November 22, Justice Hamza Muazu granted Emefiele bail in the sum of N300 million, with the condition that he must produce two sureties in like sum.
The sureties are required to possess certificates of occupancy and titles of properties within the Maitama district in Abuja.
Despite being granted bail, Emefiele has yet to meet the specified conditions, as he was brought to court and subsequently taken away by armed personnel of the Nigerian Correctional Service.
The adjournment to January 2024 sets the stage for the continuation of a trial that has drawn significant attention and scrutiny.
