In a chaotic turn of events, rival factions of the National Association of Nigerian Students ,NAN, have descended upon the National Hospital in Abuja, protesting what they claim is a delay in medical treatment for their colleagues injured during a factional crisis the previous day.
The uproar has disrupted hospital operations, forcing several patients to vacate their wards and beds.
The violent clash between the NANS factions occurred on Thursday, resulting in injuries to some students who were subsequently admitted to the National Hospital for medical care. Allegations surfaced that medical personnel did not promptly attend to the injured students, triggering the protest at the hospital on Friday.
To restore law and order, the police have deployed officers to the hospital and the surrounding areas, including the Central Area of the Federal Capital Territory. The situation remains tense, and major roads leading to the International Conference Centre ,ICC, and the National Hospital have been deserted.
In a separate incident on Thursday, the Department of State Services ,DSS, reportedly intercepted some NANS members, confiscating two pump-action guns and cartridges from them as they were en route to a convention.
The unfolding events highlight the volatility of the situation, with security forces mobilized to contain the unrest. As the situation develops, concerns mount over the safety of patients and the need for a swift resolution to prevent further escalation.
