Ghana’s delegation to the 28th Conference of Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change ,COP28, in Dubai has seen a notable increase compared to the previous year.

The West African nation registered 618 delegates for COP28, a substantial rise from its 350-member delegation at COP27 in Egypt.

The data released by the UNFCCC indicates that Ghana’s delegation for COP28 consists of 95 individuals on the official “parties” list and an additional 523 on the “party overflow” list.

It’s worth noting that some countries allocate party badges to NGOs, which might impact the official delegation size.

COP28, scheduled from November 30 to December 12, is expected to be a historic event with a record-breaking number of delegates. The provisional total for this year’s summit suggests that 97,372 individuals have registered to attend in person, nearly twice the number that attended COP27 in Egypt.

This increase reflects the growing trend of rising participation in climate COPs over the years. The UNFCCC will release final figures, accounting for those collecting physical badges at the venue, after the summit concludes.
