Indonesia is set to formally declare its interest in jointly hosting the 2025 Under-20 World Cup with Singapore, according to President Joko Widodo.

This announcement comes despite Indonesia losing the hosting rights for this year’s tournament. President Widodo mentioned that both countries are also eyeing a bid for the biannual Under-17 tournament, which could take place between 2025 and 2029.

Indonesia recently hosted the U-17 contest, which concluded with Germany defeating France in a penalty shootout. President Widodo stated that the declaration of interest has been signed by the Indonesian football federation ,PSSI, and the football association of Singapore.

He expressed confidence that both countries could be excellent hosts for these international football events.

Earlier this year, Indonesia lost the hosting rights for the U-20 World Cup just seven weeks before the tournament’s scheduled start. The decision was made due to opposition from some Indonesian government officials regarding the participation of Israel. Argentina eventually took over as hosts for the tournament.

President Widodo’s announcement reflects Indonesia’s determination to remain active in international football competitions and its eagerness to collaborate with Singapore on hosting major events.

Despite setbacks, Indonesia continues to showcase its commitment to football development and improving organizational and safety standards in collaboration with FIFA.
